Weekend update

Ryan started his weekend with violin class. We were happy to hear from his teacher that he is doing really well. Half of his class are not able to catch on (or is it more than half? I'm not sure how many students are in his class) and one student has even dropped out. Either they are not ready or violin is not their thing. Ryan's teacher has identified three students whom he says can make it and Ryan is one of them. The next six weeks will be crucial though, as they will be moving on to tougher stuff.

Ryan finally got the chance to try out this painting thing. He has been asking for a go every time we pass the booth but we never had the time. We didn't really have the time again this time, but I decided, what the heck, so we made a stop and he was so excited and grinned non-stop. We were late for our next appointment but it was totally worth it.

On Saturday, Richard and I attended our 20th year junior college reunion. Everyone was recognisable.

Ryan tried out his new swimming suit on Sunday! I asked him to pose and this is what I got.

Shopping at Ngee Ann City to pass the time before Shichida class. Ryan spent a good few minutes lovingly caressing these letters outside the Candylicious shop.

After Shichida, we drove over to Changi Airport T3 for a satisfying meal at Gurney Drive. Ryan has been asking to go to the playground at Singkids so that's where we headed after that. These photos were taken en route at the Angry Birds set up. We stuck around for the show but I would advise you not to bother if you are there. No Angry Birds showed up, just a lot of dry ice and an astronaut on a pole.

Hope you had a good weekend!

Waiting for Papa

Richard went to Jakarta for a day on Tuesday. The man has been busy busy busy. As he also left us for two days last week in Shenzhen, I told him that I will teach Ryan to call him "Uncle Richard", hahaha. I'm joking, of course. Ryan loves his papa very much!

So on Tuesday evening after work, I picked up the children from the nanny and drove us all to the airport. We got to Terminal 3 about 8-ish and had more than two hours to kill before the plane arrived. We wandered around until we came to Singkids. Ryan hasn't been to one of these indoor playgrounds for a very long time. In fact, I think the last time was one year ago when he was at a different Singkids outlet (see this post).

Anyway, Ryan was happy happy happy. He spent nearly two hours chasing balloons.

There was a younger boy there (about 2 years old) who kept wanting to hit/scratch Ryan. He would come up to Ryan and simply start hitting/scratching him - and his expression while doing it was EVIL, I'm not joking, ok. His father would go "No, no ..." from the side and the evil boy would go all innocent and surprised and doe-eyed. Then his father (and grandmother and grandfather) would laugh and chuckle. And then that evil boy would go for Ryan again.

There was once, ONCE, that Ryan nudged the little boy obviously thinking that this physical to-and-fro was a game that the little guy liked to play. The father immediately got off his butt and stepped in and told them (or told Ryan?), "No fighting!" Sigh. Sir, even though your son is certainly asking for it, my son is not going to fight with your son. In fact, Ryan was so friendly, he insisted on chaperoning the little fellow and followed him everywhere. Like I mentioned, Ryan just thought all that hitting and scratching was a game - you try to hit/scratch me and I'll try to squirm away. The little boy also kept pulling balloons out of the wind chamber and Ryan dutifully went around the place to collect the balloons to put them back where they belonged. Ryan did try to tag along with a pair of older girls but they were a little too strong and fast for him.

I didn't say or do anything as Ryan wasn't actually getting hurt and I didn't want to remove his illusion that it was a happy game. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the boy's father and grandparents knew who the bad guy was (ie. NOT Ryan).

Little Rachel chilled out and practised flipping and leopard crawling while all this was going on. My babydoll is 4 months old now!

After all that exertion, we went to have a quiet snack at McDonald's before strolling over to the gate to welcome Richard home. Ryan had such a good time that now he keeps saying, "I want to go airport airplane".

Happy weekend everyone!

Our Saturday

Yesterday, Ryan went for Edudrama in the morning as usual. Richard accompanied him.

Richard reported that, during English Edudrama, when Teacher Alexis was going through the students' names that were written on the board, Ryan kept yelling out the first letter of the name as she pointed to each one. When she pointed to his name and asked, "Who is this?", he didn't say a word! Instead, he crawled all the way to the front of the class where she was and stood beside her! She said he was so cheeky! I think so too! Hmm well, it's good to know that he knows that RYAN is his name.

Teacher Alexis served a butter cake (Sara Lee) to the class today and Ryan ate a whole slice! He was super hyper after that, so much so that, in Mandarin Edudrama, he kept running about and talking loudly. When he was asked to count from 1 to 10 (in Mandarin), he yelled the numbers out! Normally, he won't say anything (even if he knows the words)!

Anyway, his hyper state of mind continued till the afternoon and he did not go down for his nap. We were supposed to meet up with some friends at Singkids Vivocity and we stuck to the appointment, Ryan yawning all the way. He perked up when we got there, and I think he enjoyed himself a lot, especially in the balloon chamber.

After that, Ryan fell asleep for a little while, as our group adjourned for dinner in Tiong Bahru. Ryan woke up in time to have some rice, but he was generally not in the mood for socialising. He spent most of the time nursing. Nevertheless, we had a good tummy-filling time catching up with everyone and, all too soon, it was time to go home.
