Trip to Port Dickson

This is how we spent our New Year's this year! Yes, I know it's such an outdated post, but better late than never, eh? I just managed to carve out some time to collate the photos - some of these were shot by Ryan's cousins.

We went to Port Dickson with Jimmy, Margaret and family. We were already in KL at the time, so we drove down to Port Dickson on 31 December 2013 and spent a night there before driving back to Singapore on 1 January 2014. Quick and easy trip, kids had good fun with the cousins as usual.

We drove down in separate cars and, although we left at different times from separate locations, we managed to rendezvous at a restaurant for lunch just before reaching the hotel.

We stayed at Thistle Resort & Spa. The kids loved the pool, of course.

Plus the beach!

After a day of swimming in the pool and at the beach, the two littles were tired so we put them down for a nap and they slept through dinner! Luckily they didn't sleep all the way to the next morning or they would have missed the countdown to the New Year!

Here they are, nice and rested, and preparing to go and party!

The countdown was at the hotel's beachside bar and restaurant, where the two littles had fun strutting their moves on the dancefloor with the live band before the countdown began.

Happy 2014...!

Breakfast before leaving.

A good trip, even though it was so short. Ah, every little moment that we can spend with our extended family is precious since we don't get to see them as often as we'd like to, so it was a trip to remember.

New Year's Day in KL

A quick post to update on our trip to KL over New Year's Day. We drove up on Friday night and stayed till Tuesday night. I didn't take many photos this time - all the photos here were snapped with my phone or with Margaret's phone.

We met up with Terri and Vincent a few times. It's always a pleasure. Here's Terri with Rachel while we were at Tropicana City Mall. Rachel looks so girly here!

There was mahjong as always and Rachel was intrigued enough to sit with Richard while he slaughtered everyone at the table.

The main purpose of the trip was for Ryan to spend time with his cousins and he really did spend a lot of time with them. We dropped him off everyday at Margaret's house, which Ryan calls "the big house". The family was so pleased with Ryan this trip because he finally deigned to greet everyone - ye ye, ma ma, ku ma, etc. Here he is having lunch with his cousins (without us).

Ryan did spend a lot of time playing on the ipad/computer games/etc with his cousins but those moments are not the photo-worthy ones. Here're some of the more memorable activities - Ryan baked some bread with his cousin, Jerica, helping her to measure out the ingredients and knead the dough.

He also helped Jerica to make some rainbow cookies!

Showing off his rainbow cookies to Richard and me!

While we did spend a lot of time with the family, having most of our meals with them, Richard and I also managed to squeeze in some shopping, mostly clothes for the two littles, and most importantly, we had a good rest. I picked up some antibiotics from the doctor before we left Singapore which, coupled with the good rest over the trip, pulled me back to good health, in time for the new year.

Ringing in 2012

On New Year's eve, we woke up later than usual after a late night with friends (we played five rounds of mahjong with them...). Our day was pretty relaxing, the details are fuzzy to me now but I think we went to IKEA in the early afternoon and came home for a swim in our condo pool. Ryan took a nap soon after that and Richard and I settled down to watch "Thor" on DVD. Ryan woke up for the last part and soon it was time for the countdown to the new year.

We watched the Marina Bay fireworks from our upstairs terrace. Ryan was pretty intrigued, he exclaimed, "Planet!" I guess the round ones did sort of look like planets! Anyway, here are just a few photos of the fireworks. Unfortunately a construction crane was in the way. Just pretend it's an artistic sculpture.

New Year's Day is quite fuzzy to me too, but according to my trusty camera, my boys went swimming at our condo. I stayed with them for a bit to snap some shots before running up to cook our dinner.

Hello 2011

We ushered in the new year with a cozy gathering with friends at our new home. We served dinner at our outdoor terrace upstairs and watched the sunset for the last time in 2010.

Food was catered from Casa Bom Vento - deliciously spicy! Conversation flowed easily and we sat there for more than two hours before going inside to play mahjong. Later on, when the clock struck 12, we went upstairs again to pop the champagne and watch the Marina Bay fireworks. We even saw the flares from the ships at sea near the East Coast.

We played our mahjong game with a new mahjong set. As is our custom with a new set, we randomly picked four numbered tiles and Angelynn bought 4D for us the next day (today) - guess what - we struck 3rd prize plus a starter! A great omen for 2011!

The party ended after 2 am, and we were up quite late after that, cleaning and clearing up before collapsing into bed. Today we woke up at noon and we still felt like staying in bed. We dragged ourselves out of the house and drove over to the beach for a quiet lunch and a short walk before it started to rain.

Then it was off to Parkway Parade, where we bought a new computer (I'm using it now!) - our reward for finally getting our study room sorted out.

A quiet start to the new year, but a good one, I think.
