The last four days, Friday to Monday, have been chockful of events and activities and outings. Lots to share, so let's get started.

Friday was a terribly busy day at the office for me. I spent the whole day preparing for something which I wasn't even sure was going to happen and, at about 7 pm, was about to give up and leave for a gala dinner when someone up there smiled upon me and made all my work fruitful. I wrapped everything up and popped back home to dolly up for the dinner. We were a little late but still managed to snag a red carpet photo!

I think we clean up quite well, eh?

Ok, back to being Mom and Dad. Living the high life is only fun because we get to do it so rarely, hahaha.

Saturday was an intense day. There was Heguru and violin in the morning. After that, we had plans to meet up with some friends but our plans fell through. No worries, we had a back-up plan! Richard suggested that we visit an art exhibition at the Capella Hotel in Sentosa.

We walked around the hotel a bit before going to the gallery. The hotel was busy preparing for two weddings/solemnisations that day. Such a beautiful and elegant place to be married in.

This is what we went to see. "The Unexpected - Time in Art" by Yaacov Agam. And no, I don't know where Richard finds these things.

Agam is famous for his kinetic works. What's that, you say? Take a look at this piece.

Here's the same piece. From the side.

Cool, yes? Try another one. From the right.

And from the left.

One more - this piece is called "Day and Night".

From the right - it's Night.

And, from the left, it's Day.

There weren't many pieces so we were done in about twenty minutes. Good stuff. I thought it was very inventive and innovative, and a little cheeky. A different perspective of how art can represent movement.

The pieces were at adult height so Richard had to carry Ryan for viewing, while I carried Rachel. Rachel looked quietly and intently at the pieces, especially the more 'holographic' ones towards the back of the gallery.

Where's babydoll? Here she is!

This was us, waiting for our lunch at Picotin at Quayside Isle. It was a nice day for sitting next to the fancy yachts, not too hot, not too humid. We had a long and lazy time, and the littles charmed everyone including the friendly waitress.

And that's it for this edition of our Saturday chronicles - it was such a happening day that I'm splitting it up into three posts! Come back tomorrow to see where we went next!

Updates on Rachel

Little lady is growing up! You probably hear this from every mom but - where did the time go? Gone in a heartbeat, it seems.

Now Rachel is replacing her babylicious goodness with girlish loveliness and natural feminine wiles. I see her emerging features taking up permanence. I see her legs lengthening and strengthening. I see her eyes, wide with innocence and curiosity at times, wicked with glee and mischief at other times. She knows exactly how to look at you, exactly which expression to put on, exactly which buttons to press and which strings to pull.

I have been getting the same compliments on Rachel as I get for Ryan. I always think that people are just being polite and it's just the easiest thing to say when you meet someone's child. However, the other day, I was waiting for the lift with Rachel and I could hear some ladies in the nearby corridor going on and on about her - "Did you see that baby? So cute! She was playing with the car keys? So pretty!" I'm sure that there are lots of pretty and prettier babies out there but, nevertheless, it was really nice to know that someone genuinely thought that Rachel falls into that category. Made me smile.

Temperament-wise, babydoll is pretty calm. Apart from the usual crying because of separation anxiety, tiredness or hunger, she hardly cries. In fact, she hasn't thrown an actual tantrum yet. When things don't go her way, she just turns her attention elsewhere and finds something else to do. She's pretty easygoing - if you tell her "No", she will listen and follow your instructions. Well, for a while, anyway. Hee hee.

She definitely recognises faces now although she isn't yet at the stage of being shy. She adores her big brother and is happy to be in his company. I'm not sure Ryan feels exactly the same way, haha. Nevertheless, he fully accepts that our family is made up of Papa, Mama, Ryan and Rachel.

We have two rules for the children when playing together. One is "No pushing". The other one is "Talk nicely". And yes, they apply to both Ryan and to Rachel. Although when I remind babydoll, "No pushing, Rachel", it's more for Ryan's benefit because I want to show him that everyone is equal before the law, hahaha.

In case you're wondering, "sharing" is not a rule - Rachel is not at the stage to learn about sharing and, if Ryan does not feel like sharing, we won't force him to. We only monitor that the two rules, "No pushing" and "Talk nicely", are adhered to. This makes for some entertaining scenes. You'll see Ryan patiently explaining to his sister, "This is how you do it, put it here and then do like this." Babydoll will be gazing adoringly at him and then a split second later, she goes "Gah!" and messes everything up anyway. It drives Ryan nuts.

Babydoll eats like a champion and is already getting teased by her nanny for going "mum mum" everytime she sees someone eating, even though she has already had her meal. I don't know if she is actually asking for food or just describing what's happening? The other day, she called out "mum mum" when she saw Caroline eating and when Caroline told her, "but you just finished your lunch", babydoll put her forehead down on her arm in front of her and slumped her shoulders mournfully. Sent Caroline and her nanny into peals of laughter!

At home, she is still latching as per normal. However, according to her nanny, babydoll is down to one milk feed (for the period that she is at her nanny's), with the rest of her meals being solids/semisolids. This is great news to me!

I'm still working on the concept of Big and Small with Rachel, and have added on the concept of Open and Close. I've started naming colours and shapes for her too. I'm putting together some right-brain materials for her as well - will start on those soon.

She really loves music - you can get her bopping up and down and swaying side to side whenever there is a good beat. With Ryan, we tried out some electronic toys that played music but we generally leaned towards quiet toys. Rachel, on the other hand, seems to really enjoy the musical aspect of these toys, so we find ourselves loading up on batteries nowadays. Her favourite toy at the moment is the Playskool Poppin Park Elefun Busy Ball Popper, which she enjoys for both the music and the ball popping fun. Last night, Richard dug out Ryan's Munchkin Mozart Music Cube for her and she was so delighted with it, dancing and swaying to the music, so that's probably going to be her next favourite.

Ok, that's about it. Till the next update, then!

Mothers' Day 2013

How was your Mothers' Day? We had a simple and very lazy lunch, followed by some shopping. Lunch took so long that we missed Ryan's Shichida class. Ah well, Mothers' Day is a good reason to take a break!

This was my first Mothers' Day with two little ones. I look at my two babies and I wish I had let them come into my life earlier. If only I'd known the joy that I was delaying from experiencing!

Pre-babies, Richard and I were happy, no doubt. We worked hard, played hard, and thoroughly enjoyed life as we knew it. We knew that we'd get around to having kids one day although we never thought that we needed them.

Now we have two beautiful babies. And it turns out we needed them desperately.

So I don't know who was more grateful on Mothers' Day. Richard and the littles - for having me as their mother, to do whatever I do in my capacity as Mom. Or me - for having been given the privilege to serve as Mom, to be the recipient of tiny kisses and hugs, to be the most important person in their lives, to be bestowed unquestioning trust and unconditional love, and to be absolutely adored.

So, Happy Mothers' Day to me. And thank you, my babies, for letting me be your mom. I love you both, to the ends of the earth and all the way back again.

So, from yesterday's post, you all know that we went to see The Art of the Brick exhibition at The ArtScience Museum over the weekend. Ryan enjoyed himself thoroughly there. The material (Lego) was familiar to him and of course the exhibits were pretty interesting too. There were a number of stations where the visitors could participate and do stuff, which kept things engaging. See yesterday's post for the photos!

After the exhibition, we wandered up to the gallery on the top floor. By this time, babydoll had woken up from her nap so we let her crawl about and stretch her legs for a bit.

A little update on babydoll - she can wave hello/bye bye and clap her hands now! I demonstrated how to clap hands one day and she just looked at me without any reaction. I thought it would take a few more demonstrations but the very next day, she just started clapping away on her own.

We made a quick trip to the souvenir shop where Ryan picked up an "eco" kit. He was attracted to it because there was an alphabet stencil inside - you use the stencil to decorate a cloth bag.

Here we are outside. Ryan was especially thrilled to see the large letters outside the museum. He lovingly called each one by its name but, "R is my favourite letter!" he shouted.

After that, we went for a drink and some snacks at Marina Bay Sands. We went to Kraze Burger near the skating rink, and Ryan sat down and did his stenciling on the bag.

That was it. Everyone was pretty tired at the end of the outing, even though it was a short one!

Just photos today. Enjoy!

Happy weekend everyone!

It's the weekend and it's back to our normal weekend routine. In addition, we are planning to go see "The Art of the Brick" exhibition at the ArtScience museum, which should be eye-popping!

I do hope to also spend more time at home tidying up. I've been traveling quite a bit and every time I do, our home turns into a pig sty. There is stuff covering every single horizontal surface of our home right now, even the floor. I am feeling overwhelmed by all that has to be tidied up, but I have to start somewhere because if I don't then who will? So resolving that is going to be a priority.

I am running behind on answering emails, I know. I'm getting some interesting queries, but they are rather detailed, so I need some time to craft my replies. If you have emailed me, rest assured I will be replying soon.

So it looks like this weekend is going to be juggling, juggling and juggling. Let's hope I survive.
