Trip to USA - Monsters Galore!

After meeting Super Grover, Ryan met many more characters as we wandered around Sesame Place.

Bert and Ernie took the place of Super Grover and Rosita at the courtyard to pose for photographs and to sign autographs. Ryan was still stunned from seeing his beloved monsters in real life so it was the same routine with Bert and Ernie - he didn't care about the camera, he just wanted to get as near as possible to them and have them put their arms around him in a warm and tight hug. The innocence was just beautiful.

Bert looking on in amazement.

Ernie slowly turned Ryan around for the photo.
We caught up with Count von Count on the main boulevard.

There is also a spot in the park called 1-2-3 Smile with Me! which is a large photo studio where the characters appear for you to snap a photo with them. The characters take turns, two at a time, so I suppose that if you hang around long enough, you will eventually get a photo with all the characters that are in Sesame Place. While we were there, we managed to see Big Bird ...

and the international superstar ELMO!!!

Ryan got such a kick out of seeing Elmo! He was so shy yet his happiness was so obvious. It was not easy telling him to wait his turn and after that, it was even harder tearing him away from Elmo! Fortunately, we had a lunch date (and dinner date) with Elmo and Friends, so Ryan had the chance to spend some quality time with Elmo later in the day.

The staff who put on the character costumes were just wonderful. They posed for endless photographs, hugged the children (and the adults!), made funny actions to entertain everyone and brought smiles to all. The thing that had worried me most about our trip to Sesame Place was the possibility that Ryan would freak out and run away from the characters. That would have been a catastrophe! I think seeing the monsters interact with people, hugging everyone and making everyone happy, sent the message that it was all quite natural and normal.

All the (digital) photographs taken with the characters around the park are tagged to you and can be collected at one go at one location in the park. So convenient! The ones we took at 1-2-3 Smile with Me! were digitally imposed onto a background of Sesame Street.

In addition to seeing the sights, going on the rides and hugging the characters, we managed to catch one of the shows, called Elmo Rocks! There was Elmo, Cookie Monster, Bert, Ernie and Zoe. Lots of great music, dancing and audience participation. We got seats right in front, although at the end, everyone (mostly the children) rushed up to the stage to form a "mosh pit" as if we were at a rock-n-roll concert!

Here's Ryan showing off his best moves!
Ok, that's all for this post. Next post - Dining with Elmo!
