Ryan's violin debut

We have been very busy the past few days - lots to do and not enough time. My perpetual predicament.

Mainly, we have been trying to restore some semblance of sanity to our home. The lights have been replaced, the fibre broadband is up and running, and yesterday Richard put up the bike bar. Yes, he bought a bicycle. It is quite a beauty and it wasn't a cheap purchase so we decided to give it some respect and a proper space in the home. To make space for it, we had to move a bookcase into the playroom, which is still a disaster zone. Good timing because I haven't got around to organising the playroom yet so at least I don't have to change anything!

Of course, the main highlight of the weekend was Ryan's violin debut at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory! He played in a group with his three classmates and this was their repertoire - Pop Goes The Weasel, Rhythm on E, Rhythm on E and A, E String Concerto, Twinkle with stops, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Lightly Row. He did a marvellous job and we are so proud of him!

Ryan practised very hard for the performance. He did require a little bit of firmness during practise sessions sometimes and my aim is to be firm in a gentle way. Sad to say, I did go "Tiger Mom" on him a few times. I apologised to him for that, and hopefully I'll rein myself in next time otherwise it will just cause both of us misery.

His group kicked off the programme, as in, they were the first to perform. We stayed back to watch the subsequent performances, both violin and piano. All very impressive. A couple of my colleagues had children performing too - I didn't know until we bumped into each other at the rehearsal in the morning!

As Ryan and I sat in the audience, Ryan started telling me that he wanted to play the piano! I said he'd have to learn and he'd have to practise - and he said ok. So, I'll teach him a little at home and see how it goes.

On a side note - do you like his outfit? I think he looks so dapper and smart! The white shirt, vest and bow tie are from Kiddy Palace. They come in a set with black pants, but they only had size 3 (for 3 year olds). Everything fit except the pants were a little short. I initially thought that I would re-hem the pants but then decided that I would sew a whole new pair instead! So that's what he's wearing - mama's handmade pants! Not too shabby, not too shabby.

cool. Either Kiddy Palace or OG would have entire ensembles for sale. OG is more reliable in stock level. Either that or a whole suit from Mustafa. ;D
