Reading BOB books

Here's Ryan, 8 days before his 3rd birthday, reading BOB books from Scholastic. You can hear how precise he is with his pronunciation, enunciating the letter sound at the end of each word clearly.

We have Set 1 for Beginning Readers. There are 12 books in the set. I'm a little slow here because Ryan has been able to read them all easily for some time now. I was planning on buying the set from the next level for him, but he is already reading much more advanced stuff now, so I won't bother. A few nights ago, he opened one of his books and read the introductory foreword (meant for parents). I helped a little but was pretty amazed nonetheless.

Here, once Ryan finishes reading a book in a set, Richard will pass it to him and get the next one until he finishes them all, so Ryan is busy arranging and playing with the books that he is holding. Richard is pointing to the words here but Ryan usually reads without us pointing to the words. Here, Richard is guiding him because Ryan is a little distracted playing with the other books.

Although a little outdated, I wanted to mention these books because I think they're pretty good. When Ryan started reading phonetically, I hunted high and low for books with CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant) and there weren't many suitable ones. These do the job pretty well.

Sorry about the poor lighting. We were all lazing about in bed on a weekend, and I couldn't be bothered to get out of bed to adjust the lighting!

Hi Leona,
Been reading your blog. I'm amazed at Ryan's development. Really like your posts on all the little things that you do with him, as I learn so much. We have derailed on the reading part since the baby came, but I think it's about time to get back on track again.:)

Hi Kamy! Thanks for stopping by! It takes time to settle down and adjust to a new routine, I'm sure you'll be up and running in no time!
